SSCS

Der Briefträger hat mir an diesem eisigen Tag (um 9 Uhr morgens waren es immer noch -9°C) eine Ueberraschung gebracht.

The postman who rang the bell on this icy cold morning (even at 9. a.m. we still had -9°C) brought a wonderful surprise.

Ein Paket aus dem Sommer, bzw. aus Australien mit dem Vermerk SSCS (Secret Santa Claus Swap). Diesen Swap hat Chookyblue organisiert und ich habe zum ersten Mal daran teilgenommen.

It was a parcel coming direct out of the summer, i.e. from Australia with the mark SSCS (Secret Santa Claus Swap). This Swap has been organized by Chookyblue and I participated for the first time.

Vorgabe war ein Weihnachtsgeschenk nähen und einen Anhänger für den Christbaum basteln.

We had to sew a Christmas gift for our swap partner and make an ornament for the Christmas tree.

Der Anhänger den ich von JoJo meinem heimlichen Santa Claus bekommen habe, ist eine hübsch gemachte Erdbeere, übrigens meine Lieblingsfrucht, welche auch als Nadelkissen gebraucht werden kann. Das grosse Paket allerdings darf erst an Weihnachten geöffnet werden und ich werde mich daran halten, obwohl ich natürlich sehr neugierig bin :-) ! Jetzt aber schon ein ganz herzliches Dankeschön an JoJo ....Ich hoffe sehr, dass auch mein Geschenk bei meiner Swappartnerin unterdessen angekommen ist.

The ornament which I got from JoJo , my secret Santa Claus, is a nice handmade strawberry which I can also use as a needlecase when sewing. By the way, strawberries are my favourite fruits in summer. The big parcel, however, I am not allowed to open before Christmas. Though I am very curious to see its content, I will stick to this and wait......But already now and here I want to thank dear JoJo in Australia. I do hope that in the meantime my parcel has also arrived at my swap partner's.

Ueberall... / Everywhere...

Eine kleine Auszeit vom Alltag gab es in der letzten Novemberwoche. Wir verbrachten eine Woche in Portugal, auf Sonne hoffend. Aber das Wetter und die Temperaturen waren eher "durchzogen", was uns aber nicht störte.

We had a little break from everyday life and spent the last week of November in Portugal, hoping for some sunny days. But weather and temperatures were quite mixed. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our little holiday.

In welchem Land ich auch bin, immer muss ein Buchladen (und eine Gärtnerei und seit zwei Jahren natürlich auch Stoffläden!) besucht werden. Und überall werde ich irgendwie fündig ;-) ! Diesmal gab es neue Lektüre (dank der guten Anleitung und Bilder auch für mich nicht Portugiesisch Sprechende verständlich).

Whenever I am in a foreign country, I always have to visit a bookshop (a nursery and since two years ago a fabric shop too!). And everywhere I am successful in finding something ;-) ! This time I returned home with new lecture which fortunately I more or less understand (though I don't know the Portuguese language) as the descriptions has a lot of pictures!

Und als Mitbringsel kamen hübsche Handstickereien auf feinstem Baumwollstoff mit nach Hause....

Of course I also got some souvenirs, so e.g. lovely pieces of embroidery, handmade,....

sowie natürlich wunderschöne Erinnerungen an erholsame Spaziergänge am Meer :-) !

and on the whole beautiful memories of relaxing walks along the lonely beach :-) !

Bald... / Soon...

Die Decke für unseren jüngsten Sohn ist weg. Eigentlich wurde bloss ein fast schwarzer Stoff mit japanischer Zeichnung umrandet und gequiltet. Das passt für den Japanfan und seine moderne Wohnung.

The plaid for our youngest son isn't here anymore. As a matter of fact I only used an almost black fabric with Japanese drawings which got a border and was finally quiltet. It's the perfect "quilt" for our son who lives in a modern furnished flat and who is a fan of Japan.

Obwohl ich ja eher ganz helle Farben (und weiss) für mich selbst liebe, so darf es an Weihnachten doch ganz traditionell rot, gold und grün sein. Versuche im Moment Filzanhänger in Sternenform zu basteln, die den Türkranz schmücken sollen.

Though I prefer bright colors (and white) for myself, I also like the traditional colors red, gold and green for Christmas. At the moment I'm trying to create felt stars which should decorate the wreath which will be hanging at the front door during Christmas time.

Langsam aber sicher verspüre ich eine gewisse Hektik, bzw. Nervosität. Weihnachten steht ja vor der Tür. Bald sind wir wieder weg und kommen erst am 1. Advent zurück. Etliche Arbeiten sind noch nicht fertig. Ob es dann wohl Nachtschichten für mich gibt? Es sieht fast so aus....

Slowly I'm getting a bit nervous and I feel a certain hecticness. Christmas isn't far away and in a few days we are travelling to Portugal and will only be back after the first Advent Sunday. There are still some little gifts waiting to be finished. It looks as if I was going to have some nightshifts...

Wieder daheim / Back home again

Wieder daheim, nach fast dreiwöchiger Absenz unterbrochen mit Herumreisen und Urlaub.

Back home again after a three weeks absence which was used for travelling and holiday (with some interruptions).
In meinem Nähzimmerchen liegen einige UFOs die noch dieses Jahr fertig gemacht werden müssen. Eine Decke sollte bis nächste Woche gequiltet sein, da es ein Geschenk für meinen jüngsten Sohn zum Geburtstag wird. Ich zeige sie aber erst, wenn sie fertig ist und er sie bekommen hat ;-) !

There are some UFOs in my sewing room waiting to be finished this year. A quilt should be ready next week but it isn't yet quilted. It is a present for my youngest son to his birthday. I'll only show it when it is finished and when he has got it ;-) !

Weihnachten rückt auch näher und die Kiste mit den entsprechenden Stoffen ist nun griffbereit.

Christmas isn't far away anymore and the box with Christmas fabrics now is ready to hand.

Noch suche ich nach Ideen....aber kommt Zeit, kommt Rat. Zwischendurch schmökere ich in meinen neu erworbenen Quiltbüchern.

Actually I am still looking for new ideas, but time will show. In the meantime I enjoy to browse my new books.

1, 2, 3 und mehr / 1, 2, 3 and more

Die Abende der letzten Woche waren sehr kühl und da die Heizung nicht richtig funktionierte, habe ich mit Holz eingefeuert. So war es gemütlich warm und ich konnte ein paar Täschchen in Angriff nehmen, die für einen Kirchenbazar gedacht sind. Den "Prototyp" habe ich letztes Wochenende genäht, aber noch habe ich Verbesserungen zu machen, damit ich nicht zuviel mit der Hand nähen muss (die Schmerzen in den Fingern kommen schnell).

We had rather cool nights last week and our heating didn't work well. So every evening I made a fire and worked on my purses which I want to give for a charity sale. The prototype was made last weekend but there are still some improvements to be done. The goal is not to have to sew by hand as my fingers quickly start to hurt.

Mit der Maschine wurden die Stöffchen und das Vlies abgesteppt. Das Schrägband habe ich von Hand angenäht und das Futter wird ebenfalls von Hand hineingenäht. Letzteres muss ich jetzt noch tun.

I topstitched the fabrics with the machine. But the binding was sewed by hand and the lining has to be done the same way. The latter I haven't finished yet.


So sieht schlussendlich das Endresultat aus. Ich variiere nun mit verschiedenen Grössen.

This is the final result. I now vary with different sizes.

Ich dachte, dass das Futternähen heute meine Arbeit würde. Aber als ich frühmorgens sah, welch wunderbarer Tag sich ankündigte, liess ich das Nähen bleiben. Ich zog es vor noch die Herbstsonne draussen zu geniessen....

Actually I thought to finish the lining today. But when I woke up this morning and saw what a beautiful day was going to be, I didn't want to sew. I prefered to stay outside and enjoy the wonderful autumn sun....

Geburtstagsgrüsse / Birthday greetings

Es ist nun definitiv Herbst. Die Pilzsammler werden im Wald fündig und ein Spaziergang dort bei sonnigem Wetter ist ein echtes Vergnügen.

It definitely is autumn now. All the mushroom pickers are happy to make a find and so strolling through the forests on sunny days is a pure delight.

Die Abende werden wiederum vermehrt genutzt für's Nähen oder Sticken, nachdem das tägliche Giesskannenschleppen im Garten jetzt ein Ende gefunden hat. Weihnachten ist ja auch nicht mehr fern (in 13 Wochen!), und so bin ich bereits am Anfertigen von kleinen Geschenken.

Evenings again are filled with sewing and stitching, now that my daily job of watering all the pots and containers in the garden is over. And Christmas is not very far away anyway (to be exactly only 13 weeks left !) and so I am already busy preparing little gifts.

Dieser kleine gestickte Rosenkranz ist nun Bestandteil eines Täschchens geworden.

This little stitched wreath of roses now is part of a purse.

Es wurde heute eingepackt und tritt die Reise nach "down under" an. Es soll ein kleiner Gruss an eine liebe Person sein, die nächste Woche ihren Geburtstag feiert.

And the little purse is now on the way to "down under". It should bring greetings and all the best wishes to a dear person who is celebrating her birthday next week!

Langsam... / Slowly...

Langsam aber sicher tritt Gartenarbeit in den Hintergrund und die Nähmaschine kommt wieder vermehrt in den Einsatz. Die Abende sind frisch geworden und es wird wiederum früh dunkel. Es herbstelt. Je älter ich werde, desto mehr mag ich diese Jahreszeit. Vielleicht auch weil ich mein noch neues Hobby (Patchwork und Quilten) hauptsächlich in den Herbst- und Wintermonaten, also zwischen September und April ausübe? Wohl kaum, aber Nähen im Sommer kann ich aus Zeitmangel nur selten.

Slowly but surely gardening is fading into the background and my sewing machine is increasingly used again. The evenings are cooler now and darkness is coming earlier every day. Autumn isn't far away. The older I get, the more I like this season. Is it because I can spend more time with my still new hobby (patchwork and quilting) which I mostly do between September and April? No, I don't think so. But in summer I am seldom sewing due to lack of time.

Three UFOs are waiting to be finished. For these little baby quilts there is still some quilting to do and the binding.
Im Moment ist vorallem Handarbeit angesagt. Etwas das mir mit meinen schmerzenden Fingern nicht ganz leicht fällt. Also geht alles ein bisschen langsam....

Actually, a lot of manual work should be done, something quite difficult for my hurting fingers. So everything goes a bit slowly....

Umso mehr freue ich mich, wenn ein UFO wieder fertig ist und als Geschenk weitergegeben werden kann.

But I am looking forward to having less UFOs in due time. The quilts will then be given to someone who can use them.
