Everyday life was so busy for the last two months (well, there was a short holiday too) that I almost didn't have time to sew and blog. In this period I got a lovely gift from a sewing friend. It was a pattern for Sashiko stitchery. Although I've great problems with my fingers to do this kind of needlework, I had a go. And suddenly it was here...the faszination for these stitched lines. I love simple and geometric forms which match perfect with our home.
In the meantime I bought two books in order to get familiar with this traditional Japanese embroidery. If I do not stitch more than an hour a day, the pain in my fingers is sufferable.
During the last two months, my sewing machine, however, met me from time to time ;-) ! Many heart pillows have been made for breast cancer patients and were brought to hospital and furthermore a few simple babyquilt tops are now waiting as new UFOs.
I also made some little toiletry bags with coated fabrics for the inner and outer part. This wasn't so easy as I first thought. The stitches varied in length and sometimes the fabric sticked to the machine or slipped away. I still have to practice and make another go as I like to have this kind of toiletry bag which is wipeable everywhere.
The actual project - it has been started about two years ago - is slowly growing. Several blocks with flowers (tulips?) were made but there are still a lot of them missing. Luckily I do not have to hurry as I'm intending to give the finished quilt to a friend for a special birthday..but this will be in two years only ;-) !
